How To Make A Wedding Photo Book: A Guide by Pixajoy
A wedding photo book is more than just a pretty decoration for your shelves or coffee table. It is a time-capsule – a historic cache full of treasured memories and breathtaking moments from the most magical day of your life. As previously mentioned in our last blog post on How to Create a Personalised Family Yearbook – creating your a personalised Photo Book can seem like a daunting task. Especially if you’re planning to make one for such a magical occasion such as your wedding!
It will take time, effort and organisation – but we promise you. Once you’ve finished putting it all together, it’ll be worth it! To make things a little easier for you, at Pixajoy, we’ve provided everything you need to create your own, one of a kind wedding photo album.
From different book types, sizes, finishing, templates and accessories – you’ll be spoiled for choice. To help you get started, here’s a little guide that you can follow along in order to make your own personalised wedding book.
Step 1: Gather Your Photos
The photos you’ll want to include in your photo book may live in many different forms and places. They could be in the form of polaroid photos from the photo booth, selfies in a family member’s handphone, in the USB given to you by the professional photographer or even on social media – uploaded and captioned by your bestie.
Collect
The first thing you want to do is collect these photos and decide which ones you’d like to include in your wedding photo book. Of course, since it’s your wedding day, there’s bound to be hundreds if not thousands of photos taken to capture such a memorable event. The number of photos can be overwhelming at times, so be sure to stick to your favourite. To make it extra special, be sure to involve your partner, family members or even your best friends to help narrow down the selection. By doing so, you will also be able to estimate the number of pages you’ll need to form your book.
(Note: Depending on the type of book, you’ll be able to create a stunning photo book with as little as 20 pages or with as many as 150 pages!)
And don’t worry about not making use of all of your photos. If there are a few images you like but don’t necessarily fit in with the overall theme for your wedding photo book, you can simply turn them into individual prints, wall art or even personalised home decor items to be used to decorate your home (or gift to your parents and in-laws)!
Organise
Once you’ve picked out all the photos you want to use in your wedding photo book, the next step is to organise them. Ideally, you’ll want to sort your photos in chronological order as it makes it easier to tell your wedding story from start to finish without missing any parts.
Step 2: Select Your Book Type & Size
With so many photo books to choose from, every vision has a match. For the most user-friendly and easy to make a wedding photo book, we recommend the Flush Mount Hardcover Photo Book – with pages that will lay completely flat and will be able to showcase every photo without missing a detail. In addition, the Flush Mount Photo Books comes in 11 different sizes and features luxuriously thick pages. The look and feel of it give off a very sophisticated and decadent look – making it the perfect choice for immortalising once in a lifetime moments like weddings.
However, if you prefer a photo book with a higher number of page counts, there is also our best-selling Imagewrap Hardcover photo books for you to consider. Besides being able to fit in more pages, the Imagewrap books also come in 9 different sizes with different finishing – like gloss, matte, premium photo lustre and premium linen to give your moments that extra bit of razzle-dazzle.
Pro-Tip: If you’re not too sure what sized photo book to get, we’ve been reliably informed that the ideal size of any photo book is the 8.5”x11”.
Step 3: Choosing Your Template
Once you’ve settled on a book type and size, the next step is to choose a template for you to personalise. At Pixajoy, we’ve made putting together a Wedding Photo Book extremely easy by providing you with plenty of template options to choose from – with 13 of them designed specifically for wedding occasions!

Vines of Loves
Additionally, if you have a background in designing, you can also choose to create your wedding photo book from scratch by selecting a blank template to customise and make your own.
Step 4: Tell Your Wedding Story
When it comes to choosing your layout and creating a cohesive flow for your wedding photo book, you can never go wrong by sticking to the basics. In our editor, you may notice the ‘Layout’ option. By clicking on that option, you’ll be free to change the layout of your book – whether it’s from a pre-designed layout based on the template you’ve picked, or a blank layout that you can customise based on your preferences.
Whether you’re contemplating on doing a full spread or making a collage, here are some layout examples and ideas that’ll help with the flow of telling your wedding story via print.
Dedication Page
Before diving right into the photos, why not set the tone of the book by adding in a short dedication page on the first page. The dedication page can include all sorts of information – from the history of the couple to the date, location and overall atmosphere of the wedding itself.
Additionally, couples who want a more lighthearted feel to their book can include silly anecdotes from the weeding – a sort of ‘behind the scenes’ peek at what was actually going on. Or to make it extra special, couples could even include a copy of the wedding vows to reaffirm their promise to each other every time they flip the photo book open.
Set The Scene
They say that you’ll never forget the place you got married in. That’s a given, but sometimes the details can get a little fuzzy. To recall the venue in all its grandeur, why not try to include a few spreads that feature the location of the wedding.
From the exquisite decorations to the magnificence of the hall (or scenery if you’re having an open-air ceremony), be sure to include these and all the other little details that made your wedding seem more magical.
Getting Ready
Following the location spread, try to include two or three spreads worth of photos that feature both the bride and groom getting ready. Photos in this spread can include the wedding outfits and accessories, the bridge getting her makeup done, the groom putting on and adjusting the finishing touches of his suit and even the final ‘pep-talk’ from the parents and friends to the ‘soon to be wedded’ pair.
First Looks
Nothing is more satisfying than seeing the absolutely dazzled look on a groom’s face when he first sees his bride (and vice versa for the bride!) The love and amazement in their expression is something that should be cherished forever, so be sure to include a full spread (or a collage of shots) of that moment!
Family Photos
A wedding is more than the joining of two people. It’s the joining of two families. What better way to commemorate the growth of your family by including a ton of new family photos into your wedding photo book!
…Don’t froget your besties!
Planning a wedding can be an overwhelming experience. Which is where friends come in. From helping with the wedding transport, collecting flowers, preparing goody bags and taking photos of other guests at the wedding, the wedding just wouldn’t be the same without their contribution.
You can use up to three or four spreads just for photos of you and your friends at your wedding (or more if you had tons of friends helping out).
Ceremonial Shots
When you’re the one getting married, your focus is not on the things surrounding you. It’s usually on your partner (and on not messing up your vows)! So while you’re hyper-focusing on being in the moment, leave it up to your photographer to shoot some stunning shots of the actual ceremony itself for you to include in your photo book.
Depending on the type of wedding you’ve had (as different weddings have different ceremonies), the number of spreads dedicated to these types of shots can vary.
Candids!
Candid shots and stolen moments of your family members, friends and guests having a good time at your wedding can be just as meaningful (if not more so) as formal portraits shots. They capture the finer nuances of human emotions – from pride, happiness, satisfaction and everything in between.
Besides candid shots of friends and family members, candid shots of the couples themselves can also make for very striking shots – and carry on sentimental notes that should definitely be preserved.
Finally: The Closing Shot!
And finally, to finish off your wedding photo book, we definitely recommend using a singular shot that strikes all the right sentiment. For example, the photo of your final farewell, your favourite couple shot, or even your final kiss of the night (if you’re not too shy)!
Step 5: Protect Your Love Story
With all the effort you went through to create an heirloom quality wedding photo book, don’t you think it deserves some extra protection so that it can be passed down to future generations?
A custom slipcase – tailored made to perfectly fit your book – will be just the thing to keep your book protected from dust, drops, spills and other external elements. This extra bit of precaution will also ensure that your forever love story will last just as long.
